Valtteri Bottas cycles from Malaysia to Singapore: All the details about the Finn’s Cycling Escapade

Cadillac driver Valtteri Bottas completed nearly 420 kilometres on a bicycle from Malaysia to Singapore ahead of this weekend’s night race at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Let’s look at all the details about the Finnish driver’s cycling escapade between the F1 weekends.

The 2026 Bahrain GP was held in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit amid the situation in the Middle East. The Bahrain and the Singapore GP are part of the triple header. However, instead of taking a private jet like most other F1 drivers, Valtteri Bottas decided to cycle from Malaysia to Singapore.

The Cadillac driver crashed out of the 2026 Bahrain GP as the gamble to put on slicks in the damp conditions backfired. Amid the disappointment of back-to-back retirements in Azerbaijan and Malaysia, the Finnish driver decided on cycling to Singapore for the night race.

Soon after the race ended at the Sepang International Circuit, Valtteri Bottas started his journey on two wheels. He took to social media platforms and uploaded a video of cycling through the back roads with a caption that read,

“Yea I’m riding to Singapore 🚲. On the gravel roads less travelled with my new @canyon_bikes Grail CFR. See you there 🇸🇬”

The Finnish driver planned on a 350-kilometre journey in three days, but completed close to 420 kilometres on his way to Singapore. Valtteri Bottas’ daily progress was updated on the Strava app.

Bottas covered 56.6km on Sunday, just hours after the race ended. The Finn cycled for 128 minutes from the Sepang International Circuit to the Port Dickson area. On Monday, he cycled for 161.91km, completing the distance in 5 hours and 45 minutes.

On Day 3 of the journey, he completed 161 km in 5 hours and 32 mins towards Batu Pahat. Bottas cycled for 40 km on Wednesday, making it to the heart of Singapore City, completing 419.67 km

Former F1 driver calls Valtteri Bottas crazy after the cycling escapade

Valtteri Bottas is a cycling enthusiast, participating in various events alongside his F1 career. His most recent participation includes the 2023 Unbound Gravel in Kansas and South Africa’s Swartberg 100 to qualify for the UCI Gravel World Championships, followed by the 2024 Gravel World Championships.

Former F1 driver Mika Salo called Valtteri Bottas crazy, while praising his fitness level amid the Malaysia to Singapore cycling escapade, as he said, (via Finnish newspaper Iltalehti)

“That’s a pretty wild ride. I was going to send him a message that he’s f**king crazy. Quite a trip and not exactly safe.”

“Very possible. At least he’s the craziest. It builds endurance and fitness. It is exactly the right kind of training that those modern formula drivers need,” added Salo when asked if Bottas was the fittest F1 driver

Valtteri Bottas’ girlfriend Tiffany Cromwell is a professional cyclist, and the couple shares their cycling updates on social media regularly.
