This resulted in Lewis Hamilton being on old tires towards the end of the race, and being overtaken by three drivers. After starting P3, he finished P6. The seven-time F1 champion issued a public statement after the race and apologized to the team.
“A painful lesson today, but I take full responsibility for the decisions I made. Not every call will work out, and I can accept getting it wrong, but I’m sorry for the team for the points we lost today. They put so much into every weekend, and I wanted to deliver more for them. I’ll continue to put the work in and come back fighting at the next race,” read a part of the statement issued by Hamilton

However, the Briton didn’t do the same. After the race, Hamilton came out and apologized for the same, as he said:
“Yeah, firstly, Charles… Obviously, I was quicker, but Charles was gracious to let me by. At the end, I got the message really late on, and I was zoned in on the car in front of me, even though there was 0.001 chance of passing.”
“I was still hopeful, maybe. Basically, I did lift on the straight and did actually brake, but I missed it by like 4 tenths, so that was just a misjudgment for myself. So I apologise to Charles. At the end of the day, it’s 8th and 9th, so…”
