Lewis Hamilton misses post-race media pen after F1 Singapore GP as Ferrari issues statement
Ferrari star Lewis Hamilton finished P6 at the Singapore GP after a tough final stint. The Briton squatted after getting out of the car, as he was feeling unwell. The FIA medical team checked Hamilton, who will miss post-race media pen duties.
The Singapore GP is infamous for being one of the most physical races on the calendar. The hard braking zones, the heat and the humidity result in drivers losing up to five kilograms of weight over the race distance. What made things worse for drivers was that it was back-to-back after the Malaysian GP.
Lewis Hamilton had a tough race, where he started P3, but an alternate strategy and decision not to pit under VSC meant a long stint of dying soft tyres. The Briton managed to finish P6 and apologized to the team after the race.
After getting out of the race, the Briton was seen in an unwell condition and was seen by the FIA medical team. It was then confirmed by Ferrari that Lewis Hamilton has been permitted to skip the media pen duties after the Singapore GP, given his physical condition.
Ferrari spoke with the media after the race and gave a statement about Hamilton’s medical condition.
“After the race, Lewis felt unwell and has been seen by the FIA medical team. He has been given permission by the FIA to not attend the post-race Media pen,” was the statement.
Ferrari had asked Lewis Hamilton to come in for his second stop during the VSC caused by Lance Stroll. However, the Briton missed the pit entry and decided not to pit for the remainder of the race. Ferrari lost the chance for a double podium as a result of the same.
Lewis Hamilton apologized to Ferrari after the Singapore GP
After missing the pit entry during VSC, Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer reminded the seven-time champion about his pit window. However, the Briton asked if he could hold it out or wait for another VSC. Hamilton would’ve lost two places and came out on fresher tires.
Instead, staying out cost him three places, with no chance of getting them back. The Briton apologized to the team after the race, as he said on the radio,
“Sorry, boys. I let you down today with that strategy… my call… lost us valuable points. I’ll try and make up for it in the next one. Great job with the pit stops.”
Max Verstappen won the race, Charles Leclerc finished P2 and Kimi Antonelli completed the podium.
