Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri react as the two McLaren drivers collide during the F1 Singapore GP sprint
McLaren driver Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri crashed into each other on the final lap of the 2026 Singapore GP Sprint Race. The Australian and the Briton took to the team radio after the incident and reacted to it, with Norris justifying his move.
Piastri and Norris lost a position to Lewis Hamilton off the line, and settled into P4 and P5 respectively after the chaotic start. Charles Leclerc built a few seconds’ gap to the McLarens, which dwindled down to a few tenths towards the end of the race, as the Monegasque complained about tire wear.
Going into the last lap, Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli were covered by just two seconds. While the Australian was trying to line up a move on Leclerc, Norris dive-bombed his teammate going into Turn 5.
Oscar Piastri left half a car’s width on the inside, as Norris rode the kerb. However, there just wasn’t enough space for the Briton, who crashed into his teammate, as both McLarens spun. Piastri crashed into the barrier and had to retire from the race. Norris was able to continue and finished the race in P8.
Oscar Piastri remained calm on the team radio and didn’t discuss the incident with his teammate. The Australian said,
“Oh, um… um I’m out.”
“It’s for 4th & 5th for a sprint race, I’m not that bothered either way. Just obviously it’s a lot of work now for the team to get both cars fixed,” said Piastri when asked about the crash during the post race interview
Lando Norris, on the other hand, gave justification as to why he made the move, and how he was alongside Piastri, and deserved to be left space on the inside.
“Sorry about that. Obviously, I didn’t want that to happen, but I thought we were completely side by side. I just ran out of space at the apex, but I was there, so…”
The FIA will be investigating the incident after the race.
McLaren bosses furious after Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s Singapore GP sprint crash
McLaren CEO Zak Brown was furious on the pitwall as his drivers made contact on track. The broadcast showed Brown in disbelief after the incident. Ted Kravitz, during the post-race show, revealed how the McLaren bosses have refused to do any interviews following the incident, as he said,
“Both Zak Brown and Andrea Stella have, let’s put it delicately, declined to do any interviews at the moment, clearly furious with both of them.”
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri also collided at the 2025 Singapore GP, where the Briton tried making a move into Turn 3, clipped Max Verstappen, and hit Piastri, who was alongside him.
