After an intense F1 triple header, the next race on the calendar is the 2025 F1 Canadian GP. Drivers and teams will take a break before heading to Montreal for the next race. The Canadian GP takes place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. With a two-week break before they hit the grid in North America, the drivers will have time to dust off the triple-header and come in fresh.
The Imola Grand Prix, which kicked off three weekends of back-to-back racing, gave us the second Max Verstappen win of the season. But in Monaco and Spain, the dominant McLarens took their spot at the top. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both scored wins back-to-back. Meanwhile, Ferrari also had some success. Charles Leclerc took P2 in his home race and P3 in a late lunge in Barcelona.
But not everyone’s fared well. George Russell of Mercedes saw some of his worst results of the season come in these past three weekends. He finished P7 and P11 in Imola and Monaco and was set for another possible P5 finish in Spain. In the second Red Bull car, Yuki Tsunoda has scored a total of one point over the three F1 Grand Prix weekends.
Meanwhile, drivers from Aston Martin, Kick Sauber, and Alpine have all had ups and downs through the triple-header. So, going into the Canadian GP, who might be in a good spot, and who might not?
2025 F1 Canadian GP top picks – Who is hot and who is not?
Isack Hadjar – Hot
The Racing Bulls driver has had a great three weekends in his first F1 season. In Imola, he scored two points after a P9 finish. The following weekend, another eight points after P6. This past weekend in Spain, he crossed the line in seventh to take another 6 points.
Looking at his 14-point total from Spain and Monaco, he scored more points than Max Verstappen. He’s the second-highest-scoring rookie of the season so far. Going to Montreal, Hadjar will be looking to stack up more points and keep his momentum going.
Kimi Antonelli – Not Hot
On the other side of the rookie spectrum is Kimi Antonelli. Driving for a top team, the Italian has had a challenging three weekends. After a DNF in Imola, he finished last in Monaco and then failed to finish again in Spain this past weekend.
After scoring some solid points in five out of the first six GPs of the F1 season, Antonelli has lost out on his momentum. While his troubles have mostly been car or team-related, it’s hard to imagine that the 18-year-old is feeling very motivated going into Canada.
Ferrari F1 team – Hot
Despite bringing in solid points for most of the season, Ferrari has failed to wow. But back-to-back podiums for Charles Leclerc have helped them catapult into P2 in the championship standings. Even Lewis Hamilton got some strong results in this triple-header.
The Briton scoring P4, P5, and P6 has also helped the team earn its spot at the top. As they head to Montreal, the Italian team will be looking to keep up the podium streak, and Hamilton will be driven to perform as well as his teammate. The combination might be enough to get better results as the season continues.
Aston Martin F1 team- Not Hot
While Aston Martin isn’t in the form they once were this season, they might be in more trouble heading to the Canadian GP. Currently in P9 in the constructors’ championship, 14 of their 16 points have come from Lance Stroll. It took until his home race for Fernando Alonso to score his first points of the season.
Aston Martin is operating with a handicap given Lance Stroll’s situation and their reserve driver dilemma as well. This past weekend’s Grand Prix also had them enter with just one vehicle. If they don’t secure a replacement for the Montreal event, they might drop down to plum last in the standings.
Only once the weekend kicks off will we get a better idea of who is hot or not. The first practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix takes place on the 13th of June, with the weekend culminating with the race on the 15th.
