Why Max Verstappen’s girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, has been the target of fan backlash for her remarks on the French Student Protests
Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet has been facing backlash for her remarks on the French student protests. The Brazilian model took to Instagram and uploaded stories, criticizing the violence caused by the French student protests.
Kelly Piquet often takes to her social media platforms to express her thoughts on the things going on around the world. The model shared an emotional post about the Israel-Palestine conflict in 2023.
Max Verstappen’s girlfriend took to Instagram on October 19 and shared multiple stories about the French student protests. One story included her remarks about the situation, as she criticized the destruction of public property.
“Watching what is happening in France and in other European countries is deeply upsetting. There is a difference between protesting, demanding change and making your voice heard, and destroying the very communities you claim to be fighting for,” wrote Kelly Piquet.
“People can have very real reasons to be angry. They can feel unheard, frustrated and abandoned by the institutions meant to serve them. But burning public buildings, destroying businesses, attacking people and leaving entire streets devastated doesn’t fix any of those problems.”
“In the end, it is ordinary people who pay the price. The shop owner. The employee. The family whose neighbourhood is destroyed. The taxpayer who will eventually pay to rebuild it all. You can understand anger without defending chaos. A society should be able to demand better without destroying itself in the process,” she added.
Max Verstappen’s girlfriend also reposted a reel on her story of kids stealing food and hygiene products from Franprix, a major grocery store chain.
Amid this crisis, Kelly Piquet took to social media and showed her concern for the destruction. Max Verstappen’s girlfriend faced backlash for criticizing the violence, but not feeling bad for the students and crisis conditions in France which has caused people to suffer and forced them to steal to put food on the table.

The French Student Protest started in late September 2026. The protest is for the condition of schools in France, which includes a shortage of teachers, overcrowded classrooms, and subpar facilities. This protest became part of a bigger scheme, with French people rising against the cost-of-living crisis.
