Michael Schumacher was one of the finest drivers to ever step foot in F1. His leap from the lower Formula up to Formula 1 with Jordan in 1991 gave him the perfect opportunity to showcase his skills.
Other than the two World Championships he won for Benetton, Schumacher is most popularly known for his time with Ferrari. Although the team was in bad shape when he arrived, he gradually built them up. With Ferrari, the German managed to clinch five consecutive World Championships, a record that still stands strong.
Schumacher loved to live his life in the fast lane. When he wasn’t racing, he was skydiving or skiing. Whatever he did, the German did it with great speed.
However, it was one of these that slowed him down, for a very long time.
What happened to Michael Schumacher?
Schumacher was enjoying his second retirement from F1 when he went to the French Alps with his family. As he was skiing down the mountains, he went into a different area and lost control before hitting his head on an exposed rock. His helmet was reportedly found to be split into two. The 7-time champion had to be put in a medically induced coma to treat the complications of his injury.
Schumacher has since moved back to his house in 2014 and stayed out of the public eye. Only close guests have permission to meet him. Furthermore, his family have repeatedly kept his health condition a secret.
The only people allowed to meet him in person is his family and three other close figures in Schumacher’s life.
Exploring the people allowed to visit Michael Schumacher
According to The Telegraph, the three special people allowed to meet the German are Jean Todt and Ross Brawn. Todt was Michael’s team principal at Ferrari, and the latter was the technical director. They were close to him and are said to be able to meet him.
The third name is a mere speculation. Gerhard Berger, who was close friends with Schumacher, is also understood to be allowed to meet him.
The dark cloud around Michael Schumacher’s condition remains a mystery, with multiple speculations suggesting that he does not verbally communicate, etc. Recently, F1 insider Craig Scarborough shared an update on Schumacher from an undisclosed source.
“I spoke to someone who is very, very close to him, and they just explained we’re not going to hear any more from him. He’s in a comfortable position as far as he can be with his state of health. The world needs to get used to not seeing Michael’s beaming smile anymore.”
While it sounds gut-wrenching for his fans, it is understood that it will be a long time before the Schumacher family releases information about him to the public.
