Meet Elizabeth and Noel, parents of Alex Dunne.

Alex Dunne has begun making waves in the F1 world. The F2 championship leader finished fourth in the Austrian GP FP1 session, marking a brilliant debut. During the session, his dad was spotted inside the garage, supporting him. This has raised questions over who the young Irishman’s parents are. So let’s meet Alex Dunne’s parents, Elizabeth and Noel Dunne.

Meet the parents of Alex Dunne, Elizabeth and Noel

Alex Dunne was born to Elizabeth and Noel Dunne in Offaly, Republic of Ireland, on November 11, 2005.

Alex was born into a motorsport family. His father, Noel, is a former race car driver himself. The Irishman is a Formula Ford 1600 Ireland champion, having won the competition in 2005. He competed in open-wheel racing competitions for over two decades, mainly in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Noel has been in Alex’s corner ever since his F4 days in 2021. The Irishman also supported his son’s career during the karting days. Recently, he was spotted in Alex’s garage at the Austrian GP FP1, as his son made his F1 weekend debut.

Alex Dunne’s mother, Elizabeth Waldron Dunne, is originally from Naas, Republic of Ireland. She reportedly home-schooled Alex. According to The Irish Times, Elizabeth also has a history in racing, having worked at Irish racetrack, Mondello Park.

While not much more is known about her, Elizabeth also jokingly claims to be Alex’s part-time travel agent, via her Instagram bio. She also shares numerous updates about Alex’s racing achievements on her Instagram, while also showcasing her pride in her son in the captions.

Noel and Elizabeth are now separated but remain on good terms.

Alex Dunne’s first F1 outing

As previously mentioned, Alex Dunne’s father, Noel, was present in the garage as the 19-year-old stepped into an F1 car for an official session for the first time. His mother supported him from afar.

Alex hugged his dad right before getting in the car in Austria. He also embraced Noel after getting out of the car. This showcased the closeness between the father-son duo.

During his first F1 outing, Dunne finished the session in fourth. He was just over half a tenth behind Oscar Piastri in third. This brilliant outing by the Irishman has showcased the talent that he possesses.

Dunne was already being looked at as one of the quickest upcoming drivers in the F1 world. The teenager is also currently leading the F2 championship and has already won two feature races this year. He leads the title with 87 points, with Richard Verschoor in second with 84.

His FP1 outing around the Red Bull Ring will only enhance his reputation among potential suitors.  It is hard to see him in a McLaren seat anytime soon, given the existing contracts of both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. But other teams on the grid will surely be looking at Dunne as a potential option in the future. It is safe to say that we have not seen the last of him in F1.
