F1 Strategist Ruth Buscombe’s Husband: Nathan Divey and their F1 story

Ruth Buscombe and Nathan Divey

Ruth Buscombe and Nathan Divey have a love story that starts with an office romance. Except their office was the many paddocks of the Formula 1 calendar. Buscombe, who has built a career as a race strategist with multiple teams, met Divey, a mechanic who has worked with the best of the best, and the two were wed last year.

In August last year, Ruth Buscombe and Nathan Divey got married at the Old Marylebone Town Hall in London. Buscombe made an F1 joke on her X (formerly Twitter) account to go with the images of her wedding. Her X post also featured a beautiful video of the couple leaving the wedding venue.

In May of 2024, Ruth Buscombe left her position as Head of Race Strategy for Alfa Romeo to join F1TV. She provides strategic insights and acts as an analyst, presenter, and commentator for the sport. The 35-year-old started her career in race strategy with the Ferrari team from 2013 to 2015. She then moved to the Haas team for eight months, before joining Alfa Romeo (now Kick Sauber). She’s worked with Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc, and Valtteri Bottas.

Meanwhile, Nathan Divey started his career as a mechanic with the Honda F1 team. He was the No. 2 mechanic for the Jensen Button side of the team. In 2009, he took the spot of No. 1 mechanic for the Rubens Barrichello car in the Brawn team. Then, for the next 13 years, he held the same position in the Mercedes team, acting as the first mechanic for Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. It was during his time with the seven-time world champion that he met Buscombe.

Ruth Buscombe reveals how the memorabilia collected by the couple shows “no loyalty”

Last year, when Ruth Buscombe made the jump from working for Ferrari to working for F1 TV, she opened up about her life in an interview with Motorsport. In the interview, she spoke about how her house is decked out in F1 memorabilia. She revealed that due to she and her husband having spent their career with different teams, they have collectibles from all over the grid. According to her, this gives the impression of no loyalty to one specific team.

“I’ve collected quite a few bits of memorabilia over the years, so between myself and my partner, who worked with Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, we look like generic F1 super-fans with no loyalty,” she says. “We’ve got about five or six different teams represented on the wall, which actually works well now that I’m with F1.”

Her house reflects her position with F1 TV, with having to speak about the sport in general, Buscombe is allowed to enjoy the efforts of all 10 teams.

“In broadcasting you really get to celebrate everyone’s wins.”

One of the treasured pieces Buscombe has is a poster. The poster is signed by Sebastian Vettel thanking her for helping him secure his first victory with Ferrari. The poster resides in the strategist’s home office.
