7 Extravagant cars in Lewis Hamilton’s elite collection (Beyond his F1 steed)

Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes cars

Although he drives an expensive and powerful car during his day job, Lewis Hamilton also has an impressive private collection. Hamilton’s personal garage boasts cars from Mercedes, Ferrari, Ford, and McLaren. He also has an affinity for vintage vehicles, having a few of them in his collection as well. He has been a proud owner of a special edition $2.1 (€1.9) million-worth Pagani Zonda, but he sold that a few years ago.

1. Mercedes-AMG Project One

During his time racing for the Brackley-based team, Lewis Hamilton came into possession of a Mercedes-AMG Project One. He was involved with testing the prototypes of the vehicle before 275 of them were manufactured for sale. Hamilton also purchased the $2.7 million (€2.3 million) car for his father.

2. Mercedes-AMG SLS Black

Another feature in his collection is the Mercedes-AMG SLS Black. It has the capability of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just three seconds thanks to its 6.2-litre V8 with 620bhp. In 2014, the car cost $275,000 (€240,271). Today, auctions have seen the car go for a lowest price of $407,000 (€355,602) and a highest price of $907,000 (€792,459). [Figures via Top Speed]

Also in his stable of Mercedes cars is a Mercedes AMG GT R, a Mercedes AMG G63 6×6, and a luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S600.

3. Ferrari LaFerrari

Before even driving for Ferrari, Hamilton was already a fan of the Italian brand. The British driver shelled out a reported $1.9 million (€1.6 million) for a red Ferrari LaFerrari. It’s also not the only LaFerrari he has; he also has an Aperta edition of the car, which cost him a whopping $2.9 million (€2.6 million).

4. 1966 Shelby Cobra 427

Hamilton’s collection also includes cars of rich history. One of them is the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427. The car’s estimated worth is $5.4 million (€4.7 million), making it one of the most expensive cars in the British driver’s collection. He used to be seen driving it around when he was in a relationship with Nicole Scherzinger.

5. 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Another vintage vehicle in the driver’s collection is the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 from 1967. When he procured the car, it was worth $1.5 million (€1.3 million), but he took it to an American garage to restore it to pristine condition. The work on the car will definitely have made an impact on the price.

6. McLaren P1

Given that Lewis Hamilton spent six seasons and scored his first drivers’ title with McLaren, it’s no surprise he owns a few of the carmaker’s vehicles. In 2015, three years after he left the team, he purchased the P1 for a price of $1.6 million (€1.4 million). It has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, along with an electric motor. This produces 903 bhp, which achieves a top speed of 217mph and 0-100 km/h in under 2.7 seconds.

7. 1995 McLaren F1

Capping off this list is another McLaren, one built before Hamilton raced for the team. The McLaren F1 driven by the 40-year-old has the chassis number 044, which is his racing number. It was put up for auction in 2017 for a whopping $15.62 million (€13.6 million). For a while, it was unknown who had scored the winning bid, but Hamilton was seen driving it around in Beverly Hills, putting an end to all speculations.
