James Vowles, former Mercedes Motorsport Strategy Director and current Williams Team Principal, is married to Rachel Rolph. The couple have been together for several years, but the exact date of their wedding is unknown. They also have one daughter together, who born in 2023. Vowles’ wife is quite out of the world of F1 and she currently works in the field of medicine.
According to Rolph’s LinkedIn, she has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of London. She also has a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in Surgery. She previously worked for the National Health Service in the UK as a surgery resident and a Breast Reconstruction Clinical Research Fellow. Currently she is pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Oxford. There, she is researching robotic breast surgery, as well as working on clinical trials and innovation in the same field.

The same year his daughter was born, James Vowles joined Williams as their Team Principal. In his first year with the team, they finished seventh in the standings. Last season, they finished in ninth place. So far this season, they’re sitting in fifth place, just behind the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull.
Rachel Rolph was once left confused between James Vowles and Carlos Sainz’s relationship
Last year, it was announced that Lewis Hamilton would be taking Carlos Sainz’s spot on the Ferrari team for the 2025 season. After which, Sainz had many suitors. One of whom was James Vowles and the Williams team. In his pursuit of signing the Spaniard for this season’s line-up, Vowles ended up speaking with him freuqently. The Team Principal later admitted that this led to a hilarious situation with his wife who started becoming concerned about the nature of their relationship.
“I get why, after spending the last nine months talking to him [Sainz] at least weekly, if not daily in truth, Rachel, my partner, has been very, very confused as to our relationship together relative to mine with Carlos,” Vowles said. [via Motorsport]
Carlos Sainz has scored a total of 12 points for Williams. The Spaniard earned a pair of P10 finishes in China and Monaco. He was also P9 in Miami. His best finishes came at the Emila-Romagna and Saudi Arabian Grand Prixes where he crossed the line to take eighth place.
Currently, Williams has a points total of 54, with the other 42 points secured thanks to Alex Albon.
