Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen revealed why he does not prefer attending red carpet events, mentioning intricate details. He stated that he does not like to dress up or wear a fake smile while talking to people; hence, he avoids these events.

Verstappen is known for his straightforward approach to most things in the F1 world. While one might call him a ‘PR disaster,’ this is one of the things that has made him quite popular amongst his fans. He is the last driver that one might expect at a huge red carpet event, as he regularly misses those, however, with no explanation. He usually practices GT3 racing on his simulator while missing these events, which sparks speculation that he likes racing better.

However, he recently revealed the exact reason why he misses those events. His answer was the one that everyone might have expected from him.

“I don’t like to be on the red carpet and dress up in a suit. I don’t like to interact with people that I don’t really know, and have a fake smile and fake chat. It’s horrible, I just don’t enjoy it,” Verstappen said (via ESPN).

He was also the only driver on the 2025 F1 grid to have missed the F1 Movie premier earlier this month in New York. While the rest 19 drivers dressed up in suits to watch the film, he was back at home, racing on his simulator.

Red Bull clears up situation on Max Verstappen amidst Mercedes rumors

Red Bull has been home to Verstappen since his debut a decade ago. He clinched his maiden F1 victory during his first race with the team, and clinched four consecutive titles between 2021 and 2024. His performance with the car is impeccable, and he delivers the most on the grid.

However, that took a hit this season. RBR is not the fastest car anymore, as McLaren managed to build quite a competitive challenger. While Verstappen is still a contender for the championship, there were rumors that he might be considering switching teams. The Paddock speculations even mentioned a possible move to Mercedes after George Russell’s subtle hints.

But, RBR team principal Christian Horner has a clear stance on the situation. Discussing Verstappen’s contract till the 2028 season, he said:

“We’re very clear with the contract that we have with Max until 2028. So anything is entirely speculative that is being said, but we tend not to pay too much attention to it.” (Via: RaceFans).

He also commented on Russell’s situation.

“I can imagine that George is frustrated he hasn’t been given a contract yet, but that’s between him and his team. But the situation with Max, we know clearly where we’re at, and obviously so does Max. So everything is subject to noise and obviously within any contract it remains confidential between the parties.”

It seems apparent that Red Bull would want to continue with the Dutchman till the end of his contract. With the new regulations next year, the team has a chance to build a dominant car; however, it seems unlikely considering they won’t have a Honda partnership and Adrian Newey.
