Toto Wolff and Susie Wolff are the ultimate F1 power couple. They have come a long way from initially meeting in the DTM paddocks, to now being married, with children of their own. Let’s discover the precious love story of F1’s golden couple.
Today, Toto Wolff and Susie Wolff are the most influential couple in motorsports. Toto heads the most successful F1 team of this century, while Susie is ushering in a new women-lead era in the sport.
Toto Wolff and Susie Wolff’s love story
Susie Wolff is a former race car driver herself. She was racing in the DTM series, when she met Toto Wolff for the first time in 2010. Toto was a co-owner of HWA AG at the time. The pair reportedly hit it off instantly after meeting, and began dating.
Only eight months later in 2011, Toto proposed to Susie in Venice. Later that same year, the couple got married in Capri, Italy. In 2017, Susie gave birth to their child, who they named Jack. The three of them now live together in Monaco.
Toto Wolff was married to Stephanie Wolff for almost a decade before he met Susie. The divorced couple had two children together, and Susie is now their step mother.
What makes Toto and Susie “F1’s golden couple”?
Toto Wolff is one of the most successful team bosses in F1 history. Not only have Mercedes had on-track success with him at the helm, the Austrian is also the only billionaire F1 team principal. This is mostly because he is a 33% stakeholder in the Mercedes AMG F1 Team. This makes him one of the most influential people in motorsports.
Susie, on the other hand, is also very influential in the motorsports world. After having retired from racing in 2015, the Briton joined Formula E team Venturi Racing as their team principal in 2018, up until 2022. She is currently the managing director of the all-female F1 feeder series, F1 academy.
Between them, the Wolff couple hold significant influence in the F1 world. In 2023, the FIA launched an investigation against them, looking into a potential case of conflict of interest, given their power within motorsports.
The inquiry had to be quickly dropped, after all 10 F1 teams came out in support of Susie. Both Toto and Susie denied any wrongdoing, and the latter even accused the FIA of misogyny and attempting intimidation. [via The BBC]
The couple showcased a united front in the face of controversy, further highlighting their strong relationship. Even all the F1 teams came out in support of them. This showcases the respect they command and the influence they have within the paddock.
Susie Wolff is reportedly eyeing the FIA presidency next. If that happens, conflict of interest concerns will resurface, and this time with arguably more weight. Convincing the paddock to back the spouse of a current team principal and owner would be a tough sell.
