Ferrari is the most successful team in the history of F1. Since they joined the sport in 1950, the Prancing Horses have gone on to secure 16 constructors’ titles, as well as 15 drivers’ titles. However, their championship victories have been spread across their time in the motorsport. Despite being so successful, the team has sometimes had to be patient to take home another trophy. Whether it has been between their drivers winning or the team securing P1 in the standings, the Italian outfit has seen major periods of no titles.
1. 1964 to 1975 – Ferrari Constructor Title drought
After they won their first constructors’ championship title in 1961, it would only be three more years before they took home a second. They achieved it thanks to the efforts of John Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini. The two drivers also finished P1 and P2 in their championship battle.
Then, Cosworth built a better engine that powered the vehicles that would take the championship titles for the next seven years. But, in 1975, the tide turned in Ferrari’s favour again. Niki Lauda scored the drivers’ championship, and with the help of Clay Regazzoni, they secured the constructors’ title as well. The Scarlet team would go on to win in 1976, 1977, and 1979, with their drivers taking home the title in ’77 and ’79 as well.
2. 1979 to 2000 – Ferrari Drivers’ Title drought
They would score three constructors’ titles during this time period, in 1982, 1983, and 1999. But this 21-year-long wait tested the Ferrari drivers’ patience in securing their championship title. In 1991, 1992, and 1993, the Italian team would secure no race wins at all. But in 1993, they brought on Jean Todt as team principal, and that sparked change for the team. They would finally secure a race win in 1994, and two years later, Todt would bring in Michael Schumacher. It would take three more seasons, but in 2000, the German driver would bring the Prancing Horses a drivers’ championship win. This started a five-year-long consecutive win streak for the team.
Ferrari would also take home the constructors’ title that year, and with the next four seasons also in hand, they scored a total of six consecutive championship wins on the constructors’ side.
3. 2008 to Present – Ferrari’s ongoing title drought
After losing out to Renault in 2005 and 2006, Ferrari would once again secure the constructors’ titles in 2007 and 2008. 2007 also marked the final drivers’ title for the team so far, with the honour going to Kimi Raikkonnen. Since then, they finished in P2 in the standings at the end of the 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2024 seasons. They also had P3 finishes in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2021, and 2023. Their lowest finish since their last championship win was P6 after their performance during the 2020 season.
In 2025, they are currently running in P2, with 197 points between them and McLaren. Meanwhile, their drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton hold P5 and P6 in the drivers’ standings. While this is a shorter gap than the #2 spot on our list, these 17 years are the longest time since the Prancing Horses have been winless in both championships.
