The F1 movie is in its first week of release and has received quite a few mixed reviews from fans globally. Many have criticized the film for its apparent inaccuracies regarding racing in Formula 1 itself. However, others have appreciated it for its production value.

Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Top Gun: Maverick, is the main man the movie. Given his expertise in action films, audiences expected the F1 film to feature solid action scenes. The filmmakers shot the movie during actual race weekends throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Brad Pitt and Damson Idris star as teammates of a fictional APX GP team in the film. Pitt reportedly was behind the wheel of a modified Formula 2 car around Silverstone during early production. Moreover, the filmmakers have used footage from real races to make the action surreal.

The plot follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), who returns to racing after a long hiatus. He is paired with Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), who is a rookie at APX GP. Both drivers attempt to clinch the championship for the struggling team.

But setting the production aside, many have questioned the film’s plot and other aspects, such as its realism compared to actual Formula 1. Fans had been the biggest critics. However, now that the film has released in several regions, professional critics on Rotten Tomatoes have shared their reviews.

F1 Movie gains 88% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes

The Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes is the number of positive ratings a film receives from professional reviewers. So far, the F1 Movie has stepped up to 88%, which is rather decent, considering films like There Will Be Blood have 91%.

As per some of the reviews, the film excels at showcasing action. At the same time, however, the plot seems to be extremely predictable and lacks originality, as two separate reviews mention.

“F1 movie really is too thuddingly familiar for words. Drop a bowling ball off a cliff and you would be less sure of its trajectory,” Donald Clarke wrote.

“It’s all so effortlessly entertaining along the way that you won’t mind the extended route getting to its final destination,” Peter Gray mentioned.

The F1 movie is a decent watch, overall. Some of the sequences make Lewis Hamilton’s contribution pretty clear. He was one of the producers of the film. Although F1 fans might be left wondering in some sequences, the film is seemingly rather watchable when considered to be just a movie. It has gained positive reviews from the drivers as well after its special premiere in New York earlier.

The film is yet to be released globally. But the reviews are expected to hang in around the same ratio.
