“I can’t repeat every weekend”: Fred Vasseur frustrated by constant Charles Leclerc Ferrari exit rumors

Fred Vasseur expresses frustration over Charles Leclerc Ferrari exit rumors.

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur shared his frustration at having to react to rumors of Charles Leclerc potentially leaving the Italian team. The Frenchman furiously explained that he does not wish to repeat the same thing “every single weekend”.

In the week prior to the Canadian GP, rumors about both Fred Vasseur and Charles Leclerc heading out of Maranello surfaced. While these reports suggested that Vasseur could be sacked, Leclerc was rumored to have lost patience with Ferrari.

Vasseur was then asked about speculation regarding his future at Ferrari by the media in Canada. But the 57-year-old responded by registering his frustration regarding questions over Leclerc’s future, comparing the two situations.

“It’s a good example to speak about Charles. Charles has a long-term contract with us. In every single interview from the beginning of the season, he’s telling that he wants to stay with Ferrari. He wants to win with Ferrari. His future is with Ferrari,” said Vasseur. [via RacingNews365]

“But every single Monday, we have an article saying that, ‘Charles will go next year’. At one stage, I don’t know what we have to do. I’m sorry – I can’t repeat every single weekend the same things. But it is like it is.” he added.

It can be gathered that Vasseur expects to stay at Ferrari in the future, and also expects Leclerc to be there.

In another interview over the Canadian GP weekend with Canal+, Vasseur even aimed a sly dig at Ferrari’s top management. The Frenchman mentioned that while drivers and team principals have changed amid poor performances, the top leadership has not.

“Now, with Lewis and Charles, I think we have a good relationship altogether. We have a clear target. We know that we have to work and know that we have to push,” said Vasseur.

“But the mood in the team is very good. And that’s the basis if you want to recover and to win. Everything is there. Everything is on the table to do a good job, and altogether, we are working well.”

Leclerc and Hamilton have seemingly developed a good bond already. But the duo are not really fighting for race wins yet. There is also a big gap in the performance between the two. Leclerc has completely dominated his teammate up until this point this season.

The two are not fighting each other on track because there is almost always a huge pace difference between them. It will be interesting to see how their rivalry develops once they get closer to each other on the track.
